As a new rider you want something that looks cool, and the Ninja 400’s bodywork make it a perfect doppelganger for its 600cc and 1,000cc siblings—you’ll most definitely be getting waves from your sportbike brethren on the street. It may look like a thoroughbred supersport when it’s leaning on its sidestand, but the Ninja’s riding position is quite relaxed overall it’s good for daily ride.
Ninja 400’s chassis, redesigning it so it’s lighter, stiffer, and handles better. The wheelbase is shorter (by 35.6mm—that’s a lot!) to help quicken steering while the swingarm is longer (by 10mm) to aid rear-wheel traction and suspension action. The engine acts as a structural member and the tubular-steel frame it’s bolted to is some 4.5 pounds lighter than the 300’s setup.
With its extra 103cc, the new Ninja 400 engine is some 30 percent bigger than the outgoing 300’s mill. That means more power and performance across the rev range, but most notably in the low- and midrange, which is right where you want it for the street.
